Northern Hideaway Sporting Camps
When a woodsman was lost on the river they would hang his boots in a tree in memory, he no longer needed them and his boots could never be filled. Rod's boots will never be filled and hang in a tree on the bank of the Big Black River. The emptiness will be felt by all.
Rod Sirois, owner and founder of Northern Hideaway passed away in July of 2006. His wife Judy still resides in T15 R15, Maine and wants to continue to live in the area. She and Rod raised a family and became a fixture in the area that they loved.
Northern Hideaway Sporting Camps still lives on. Before Rod passed away he hired Maine Master Guides Dave Kelso and Linda Engelhardt to help him run and expand the business. Rod had complete confidence in both Dave and Linda to develop new business for Northern Hideaway and continue the bear hunting business he and Judy started. And they did it! Dave and Linda's expertise paid off. Gas prices may have kept our numbers down in cliental but it certainly didn't effect our bear activities. Dave and Linda had a great bear season with an 80% bear kill.
As rivers continue to flow and constantly change, so does life and people. Dave and Linda have truly been God-send to get me through the terrible year and a half of my husband's illness and death. They took care of the outfitters business and camps with assurance, expertise and dedication. Dave and Linda, like the rivers will move on to new scenery, challenges and adventures in Texas. I wish you the best. God be with you always.
Northern Hideaway offers deer, moose, bird hunting, and fishing. Guides are available to the hunter and fishermen wishing to enhance their chances and make their trips more enjoyable.
Fishermen can also enjoy catching native brook trout and the exciting muskie fishery that has emerged on the St. John watershed.
Northern Hideaway Camp Rentals are also available for summer get-aways and winter solitude excursions. We also provide photo safaris for the photography buff. Cross country ski or snow shoe excursions can be arranged as well.
